We finished building 51 new homes in 2016/17 and started work on building 227 homes. We also secured £7.75million in funding from the HCA (Homes and Communities Agency) to allow us to build a further 257 new homes by 2021. These homes will consist of 200 affordable homes, 32 specialist homes and 25 shared ownership homes.
We also had our very first shared ownership homes go on the market. These were a two and a three bedroom home in a brand new housing development in the Lakeside area of Scunthorpe.
One of our developments was on the High Street in Ashby, which is a popular area in Scunthorpe. We built six new homes which were a mixture of one bedroom flats and two bedroom town houses. They cost around half a million pounds to build and we received funding from the HCA to build these.
They’re really modern homes, right in the centre of Ashby. They all have an open plan living design, courtyard style gardens and some have balconies.
Before the homes were built, there were derelict shops in their place which were quite an eye sore for the local community. Making these flats very welcome with locals as they improved the look of the area a great deal.
We were also nominated in the LABC South Yorkshire and Humber Building Excellence Awards. This was for our brand new development – Ermine Grove in Broughton. This development was shortlisted and highly commended in the ‘Best Social or Affordable Housing Project’. The development was made up of 13 two bedroom bungalows which cost in the region of £1million.
41 of our tenants also took the opportunity to purchase their home through the Right to Buy scheme. This is a slight decrease on the previous year.
